2023 Day 257

Thursday, September 14th

What a difference a day can make… Yesterday afternoon we had a good rain shower about the time the kids got home from school. Fall total. It probably rained. Three quarters of an inch. Today’s forecast looks like it could even be wetter.

Yesterday morning when I went to hang a full bottle of sugar water on the back porch, I discovered that both feeders are dead empty. I know Tuesday evening there was still sugar water in both. It would appear that the little buzz bombs circling the feeders are really stocking up before they attempt to cross the Gulf of Mexico.

I will say one thing for today’s overcast.. it is making for a loud morning. The train just went by heading down towards Galveston. And that was probably the loudest still on steel I’ve heard in a long time.

I have to make a run-in to the doctors in Houston today. Just to follow up with the surgeon… Again. I am not looking forward to this trip with the chance that it will be raining the whole way there and back…

So once again y’all ll stay safe, stay cool, and I’ll catch y’all on the other side.

  1. To be perfectly honest, I’ve cancelled appointments in Houston a couple of times because of heavy rain. It’s just not worth it. It looks like it will be light to moderate today, so I hope you don’t have problems. I got maybe .02″ overnight, but Dickinson got 1″ and a friend out on Algoa-Friendswood Road got a half-inch. Scattered, for sure — but this morning I found mushrooms had popped up on the lawn!

    1. I’ve debated rescheduling ever since my ac quit in my car on Tuesday. But I’ll muddle through. It really doesn’t take a lot of rain to start things popping up all over does it?
