2023 Day 121

Monday May 1st

It’s another cool and clear morning on the back porch. The day started at 56°. According to the extended forecast, this should be our last morning in the ’50s for a while. By Friday morning the daily lows will be in the ’70s. Summer’s coming…

Good morning. Houston just experienced what was very likely its final truly spring-like weekend of the season, with temperatures bottoming out at 53 degrees on Sunday morning. We’re about five degrees warmer this morning, and after a few more nights in the 60s, lows are headed to the 70s by Friday morning, and we probably will stay there for awhile.
In truth, it has been a splendid spring. We have seen mild weather since mid-February, and while March was a few degrees above normal, April was a few degrees below normal. The bottom line is that we’ve had about 75 days of mostly temperate days and mostly cool-ish nights.

My allergies have kicked up over the weekend… When I checked the pollen count I found it’s the grasses that are killing my sinuses.

Sitting out on the front porch now.. waiting for the bus to take the grandkids to school. The sun is shining in my eyes.. not yet risen enough to be above the edge of the porch.

Woodpeckers are calling from the trees, chickadees for making their own little sounds. And now the Carolina red is announcing its presence. The one sign that summer hasn’t quite arrived is that the morning isn’t being announced by a mockingbird aria. Though, I do hear the distant call of a mourning Dove.

Well the bus has come and gone so this muse is about done.. I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
