Friday

For once it actually feels like it looks outside. The temperature is down around 40 degrees, the sky is totally overcast, and the wind chimes are singing a blustery song. It’s a morning to curl up with a streaming fire on the television for virtual warmth… While native flutes play on the speakers.

The first CD of native flute music I acquired came from my only visit to the Grand Canyon. Funny thing about that visit… I never really saw the canyon. It was a January day. One that I had off on a trip to Vegas to work a trade show. I decided to take advantage of the time off and drive to the canyon. It rained off and on all the way there. When I arrived there was snow on the ground… And clouds in the canyon… The top of the cloud layer started about 50 feet down from the rim and went as far as I could see. So I went to the Grand Canyon and couldn’t see the canyon. So I went into the gift shop to spend some time before heading back to Vegas. And it was there I found “Canyon Trilogy” an album by R. Carlos Nakai. It played all the way back to Vegas.

Since that time, all those many years ago, I find myself listening to that album, and others, especially on quiet times on the back porch. It always brings me a feeling of peace…

Here’s a YouTube video of the album… give it a listen.
