Sunday, 23rd of May

Another warm and muggy morning. Overcast, with evidence of overnight rain on the ground as puddles. It’s a warm feeling 73°. And the Gulf moisture keeps streaming up over southeast Texas.

Luckily, by yesterday morning the low that had a chance of forming into a storm and the gulf had already moved overland and was setting in South Texas. Even so it keeps churning at Pacific moisture up from the gulf of Mexico.

It’s almost funny the way the rain is coming down so light, almost a mist but with large drops interspersed with wide open space between them. Most of the day the rain wasn’t even visible as it fell outside our windows. You would have to walk out and into the yard to know anything was falling.

Going out and about shows the dichotomy of our society. Even in places, stores that have still requested masks for entry have no way to police that request. So and more and more places unmasked people are massing. And in many cases you only need to look to know they haven’t been vaccinated yet… If they even plan to be.

And then you have the stupidity of Greg Abbott, Texas governor. His latest answer to the coven pandemic is a proclamation that government entities cannot mandate mask after June 4th. Luckily, many school districts will have closed by that date. Because I feel anyway, that the extra protection of mask provides in situations of enforced crowding like buses and hallways is well worth the annoyance wearing a mask seems to entail to certain sides of the political spectrum.

But this is Sunday, and I really don’t want to spend a lot of time listing the idiocies of the Texas lawmakers. If I tried, I would end up riding an epic post just to report how living and what was once considered an exceptional state has now become a running commentary on what is wrong in America…

So, y’all stay safe, stay healthy, pray for the nation and the world… And please when amongst crowds of people keep wearing your mask, it’s the prudent, American thing to do.

Have a blessed Sunday…
