Overcast. That’s what the day is starting with. And, if the prognoticaters are correct the next ten days will be much the same.

Last evening this phone was at 39% charged the last time I looked at it. When I went into the office to grab it off the charger, it wasn’t there. Sure enough, I forgot to charge it last night. Needless to say, it was stone cold dead. So, thank God for small favors, I grabbed what the grandkids refer to as a charger… and I call a battery pack… and plugged in. After 30 minutes, while using the phone to take pictures and upload to the internets, it’s now at 10% charge and charging.

I also seem to be on a run of forgetting to make the coffee pot for the wife to start when she gets up. All I can say is I’m sorry dear.

Two of the whistling ducks have settled in on the middle live oak. It seems to be a pattern on these threatening mornings.

Light rain is falling now. It’s either going to keep it cooler or raise the humidity. One nice thing about this morning… I see we are cooler than Burlington, Vermont. Who would have thought… my wife is always amazed that way up by Canada it gets as hot as it does in the summer. I keep telling her it’s all about durations. It may get almost as hot as it does down here, but it doesn’t last for months on end.

My nextdoor neighbor is out working in his shop. It sounds like he’s grinding or polishing some metal by the sounds. Now add a woodpecker to the mix… just not the pileated.

Well, my coffee cup is empty once again. Time to see what craziness the world is up to this morning. Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy whatever mother nature has in mind for you today.

  1. Rain! Real rain — thank goodness. I got some work in this morning, and then mostly piddled around this afternoon, doing this and that.

Yesterday, I went over to east Texas — the Nature Conservancy’s Sandyland Sanctuary has opened again. I emailed Susan Conaty to see if the Nash might have opened. She said not yet, but they’re working on it. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know. It was wonderful being at Sandyland again, but I nearly killed myself (metaphorically, of course). It was really, really hot, but I pushed myself a little to go over to the Watson rare plant preserve, too, and I sure am glad I did. Another orchid — an orange one! — was blooming. There will be pics!

    1. You know Linda, I envy you a bit. Pre Covid-19, I could head out and go whenever I wanted. Now I have two preteens in the house all day while their mom works. My getting off by myself is now pretty limited to the heat of the afternoon…

I look forward to your shots.

      1. I remember those years when I was Mom’s primary care-giver, and being able to get up and go wasn’t possible, for a variety of reasons. Now, even though I’m a paycheck-to-paycheck sort, I’ve got my health and a lot of flexibility — I take every day as a blessing, because it could change at any minute.

And don’t forget — virus or no virus, October is coming!
