Monday, September Twenty-fourth

A pleasantly cool and sunny morning coffee muses.

High, thin clouds drift thru a mostly clear sky. The still morning air, while cooler than normal, has that look and feel of a change on the way. The calendar says it’s now autumn… The world outside my door agrees for some uncanny reason. This is not normal for the time of year.

I’ve only seen a couple of hummingbirds this morning… until those words hit the page. Now a half dozen have announced their presence. A titmouse sings to the east. A crow is calling in the distance to the west.

Monday morning traffic has slowed down as we get further away from the top of the hour. I am still struck by how many jeeps now travel our road since Harvey.

My stomach is growling this morning. It’s all in anticipation of my all time favourite breakfast. Cold pizza… with hot coffee to wash it down. We had more leftover pizza than I anticipated after the party and the game. So I should be good for a couple of days at least…

Speaking of the party. Our last minute throw together cake theme turned out better than expected. A D&D battle on top of a cake… it looked awesome.

  1. That’s one fine cake! To have cake, and cold pizza for breakfast? That’s being in tall cotton, indeed.

I made a trip down to the refuge yesterday. There weren’t many birds at all, but in about a week the goldenrod is going to be in full bloom, and there’s a lot of it. I didn’t see any asters, but I suspect they’ll be around soon. I did get one dynamite photo of a gator, mostly nose and head, in perfectly calm, blue water. It just was good to get out and about.

    1. Ahh, Linda, I just took the first bite of pizza as your comment came in. But, it was your comment about “tall cotton” that caught my attention… I haven’t heard that in years.

I can’t remember the number of times over the years that I’ve cruised thru the refuge and seen not much more than coots in the ponds. But even without the birds, like you, I enjoyed the trip.
