Tuesday, May fifteenth

It’s cooler today, beautifully cooler for the middle of May, for my morning coffee muses.

The cattle egrets are out early today. They could be out this early on most days and I just don’t know it. I heard a new bird this morning, then I caught a glimpse of it as it flew away. The short flash of a look left me with a vague impression of a short sticky bird with a wide tail and reddish brown color. I have no idea what I might have glimpsed.

Now there is a mockingbird over by Lee’s place celebrating the morning in song.

There’s no breeze at all this morning. Except for the mechanical breeze from the ceiling fans, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy this cooler morning. I have become unaccustomed to still days down here. The wind just seems to always be blowing.

A blue jay just flew down to the feeder… it didn’t say a thing. Just ate and flew back to the trees. An almost unheard of activity… a quiet blue jay.

There’s a train off in the distance. Blowing thru the crossings. I can hear the far off rumble of steel on steel… round on flat. Still coming closer. Unknown whether it’s hauling product from the port, or, returning empty after delivering it’s haul to the ships in Galveston.

Now there’s a hawk squealing down by the bayou. Make that two. With a crow harassing them.

And still… no breeze. Even the clouds in the sky are still.

Once again, my cup is empty. Muses over for the morning…
