There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
A-telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Are getting so much resistance from behind
Time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and a-carrying signs
Mostly say hooray for our side
It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
We better stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
We better stop now
What's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
We better stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down

A Lifetime Ago… But Still Life Repeats

This song has been close in my mind recently. On one of the social media sites someone was saying that the alarm over troops in our cities was overblown. They ended by saying that our troops would never open fire on US citizens. Somebody responded by simply posting that famous photo from Kent State. History echoes and rhymes to those who pay attention to its tune.
I find myself questioning the morality of the police standing by and letting the Trump thugs blatantly break the laws of the land, But, then again, I live in Texas and if theirs one thing I’ve learned over my life it’s that morality and politics shouldn’t be placed in the same paragraph.
I agree. The decency in doing the right thing seems like a lost virtue these days.
I’ve been thinking of this song myself. I found quite a good lyric video, and am thinking it might be time to post it.
We could use Molly Ivins, too…
Given what’s been happening with the late night satirists lately I doubt Molly’s brand of humor would be tolerated by those in power today.
It was a FaceBook post shared by a high school friend that reminded me of the song… Though I have been thinking about my coming of age in the years following ’68 a lot lately.
