December Day 8

Thursday

Well, once again it’s warm and muggy. The temperature starting today is 72°. Almost all of the leaves have fallen from the Red Oak. The pictures above show yesterday and today’s leaf coverage. And with the overcast that starts each day, it really looks like winter outside though decidedly it’s not… I think that cooler than normal spell we had a few weeks back set us up for a disappointing spell of normal weather… only to be surprised by warmer than normal temperatures.

Next week
Monday and Tuesday should see a continued trend of warm, humid weather. However, at some point on Tuesday a front and, in all likelihood, a line of storms, will herald the arrival of much more seasonal weather. My best guess for the front’s arrival is Tuesday evening, but it’s far enough out for the timing to yet be fuzzy. Look for lows to drop into the 40s after the front’s arrival, and possibly the 30s toward the end of the week, at least for areas on the inland side of Interstate 45. This colder pattern has a chance to hold on for quite a while, perhaps all the way to the Christmas holiday. But that is not a firm prediction nor even a firmly held conviction at this point.

… And as you can see, the prognosticators keep backing the cooldown off day by day.

I’m going to optimistically hope for cooler weather at Christmas… A repeat of 2004 would be too much to hope for. Living on the Texas Gulf Coast, I’m only entitled to one Christmas miracle in a lifetime. Only one white Christmas allowed….

Well, the kids are on the way to school. Breakfast is on the stove or in the oven. And my coffee cup needs refilling… Again.

So I guess I will say… Catch you down the road. Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and say a prayer for this dysfunctional nation… We’re all going to need it.
