Friday the 13th
This would be an auspicious day for my grandfather. He always claimed that 13 was his lucky number. It always seemed to be good for him. Let’s hope, it’s good for me too… And good for you.
We’re having another of those cooler than normal August mornings. Though it doesn’t take long for the temperature to surpass 80° each day, starting out in the upper 70s is pretty amazing for this time of year. Though at 77° and 93% humidity I wouldn’t want to be doing any heavy lifting this morning. Manual labor in the great outdoors would be very very uncomfortable.
Ever since I discovered that DR Horton has acquired the vacant land to the north of us I’ve been doing research to figure out what’s going on. Going back through city council meeting agendas I see that this month they petitioned to have the property that’s not in the city annexed and to have a MUD district set up. The MUD district referenced the name of Watermark. I wonder if that’s what they’re going to call their subdivision?
Luckily for me there is a buffer between my house and their construction zone. It’s about 300 ft of buffer between my road and their property. And there are buildings and trees and shrubs on that buffer zone so it should provide some sound deadening as they build houses and roads and utilities in the coming year or two. Though judging from the other new subdivisions that are springing up around this area it won’t take them long to fill it up with houses.
It makes me quite happy that the road I live on is pretty full of older somewhat larger properties. After 30 years of having room between me and my neighbors, I don’t think I could handle subdivision living again.
It’s really kind of quiet and I was here on the back porch this morning watching the dragonflies patrol the yard. Watching thunderclouds build up and drift north over Galveston Bay, watching birds flit from tree to tree, watching hummingbirds fight over possession of the feeder all morning long.
Well, I’ve managed to drain the coffee cup once more… So, y’all stay safe, try and stay healthy, and say a prayer for all of us living on the red side of life…
