Friday

The deep dark blue of the southern sky almost makes up for the heat and humidity… Almost. It’s 83° this morning when I walk out, and the humidity is only 83%. But that extra 5° of temperature doesn’t make the lower humidity feel any better.

The Delta variant of covid-19 has put my family back into their masks. And then, Governor Abbott makes a proclamation about how Texas is doing such a good job with our personal responsibilities of doing what’s right to mitigate the virus… And I just want to scream. According to the governor mandates are not wanted nor required in the state of Texas because Texans have this great sense of personal responsibility. Damn, I’ve lived here my whole life and I have yet to see that.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Thursday signed an executive order prohibiting cities and other government entities in the state from enacting vaccine requirements or mask mandates to protect against the coronavirus, even as the virus’s more contagious delta variant drives another surge in cases in Texas.

Abbott’s order applies to any government entities receiving state funds, including counties, cities, school districts, public health authorities and government officials. He also declared that there be “no covid-19-related operating limits for any business or other establishment” in the state in order to “ensure the ability of Texans to preserve livelihoods while protecting lives.”

Hello if the governor was right, if what he says is true, why do we have laws and policemen? I mean think about it driving down the road if my personal responsibility is so damn good why are there speed limits? Exactly why are Texas prisons so full of people whose personal responsibility is so damn strong? Why are we having such a big big problem with voting rights? I mean aren’t we all responsible for our own actions, at least according to the governor?

I guess the governor and his personal responsibility doctrine explains why our electrical grid sucks. We should all be personal responsibility for our own electrical generation. I guess that’s why the company across the street that sells gas generators had to enlarge their facility. Yep Texans are so exceptionally responsible for their actions… Not!

Of course Texas politicians have always been oh so responsible to their constituents… You got to wonder sometimes how people on government salaries become millionaires… Must be personal responsibility!

Okay, enough of the rant. It’s the end of a work week for some people, it’s the beginning of the weekend for everyone, so y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for the nation and the world… and the governor of Texas.
