When I first stepped out on the back porch this morning it was chilly and blustery… the wind chill was pushing the thirties. The overcast was so deep that the sun was doing little to brighten the day. Even now, almost an hour later, it’s a dark wintery looking day.

I’m sitting inside watching the leaves dance on the trees from the cold nort winds. Not a promising start of a day when you are hoping for some brite fall colors. Winds like this tend to strip the leaves from the red oak.

To top it off, there’s still a lite rain moving thru the area. The rains from yesterday, falling as they did on semi saturated soil from the rains last weekend, left a lot of water standing in the yard.

I know a week does not a weather pattern make, but if this continues it’ll be like the winters I remember from way back when. Wet and overcast. Back when we first moved out here the woods behind the house stayed flooded every winter for months on end. It was the same in the woods across the road. You needed rubber “chore” boots to walk around out there. Talk about a tadpole breeding, frog singing, mosquito fest of a place from winter till spring… this year has that same feel.

I just stepped out to take my daily pictures and it’s really cold out… at least for southeast Texas if not Minnesota. Of course, being dressed in a tank top and exercise pants tends to make the chill even chillier.

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and Pray for our Nation and the world. Keep wearing your mask, washing your hands, and social distancing. We will outlive the Trump presidency.
