Another repeat visit to the front porch. Another almost cool morning. Another quiet traffic day.

This morning I watched as a lone whistling duck flew three times around the front yard trees… almost as if he was calling for someone. Just now two crows flew thru the open sky above my perch on this bench. I can hear others from their murder calling from the corners of the compass. I know we are on a patrol pattern they fly because anytime I toss some stale bread out in the backyard they pretty quickly find it.

It’s still cool enough to keep the cicadas quiet. And while I can hear some crickets, they aren’t very loud this morning. Though the cardinals and the woodpeckers are doing their best to fill the silence.

The girls of summer were out playing yesterday afternoon late. So I have a pair of pink bicycles and pink scooters parked out front. They missed each other last week while the neighbors were on vacation at their lake house.

I find myself dismayed at the Republican bravado about not wearing masks. As we watch cases of Covid-19 rise to new heights across much of the red south, the Republican Governors are refusing to back away from their bans on mandatory face masks in public. They keep insisting it’s about personal freedom, and insisting we need to trust people to make the right decisions for them. Sadly, history has proven that that trust is misplaced. When county and city governments are calling for the ability to tighten up just that far… a piece of cloth for god’s sake, the Governor’s are following the president*’s barefaced example. And we head for 200,000 deaths.

If I could tell/ask Donald Trump one thing it would be “Put on a face mask, stupid. Your example would save lives.” But then, I’m a “libatard” to quote some I once called friends. So, me ever talking to the man who would be king* will never happen.

Ok, I’m off my soap box. And, my coffee’s long gone. So you folks stay safe, stay healthy, and have a beautiful day…
