The air is heavy with moisture from the rains yesterday afternoon. Looking to the east, a haze obscures the clouds on the horizon. The air is so oppressive even the dragonflies are patrolling at treetop levels.

At least there’s a nice breeze blowing. Otherwise, I don’t think even the ceiling fans could cope.

As you can see from the shots, I’m back on the back porch. I’m visiting with the cicadas again. Plus, the bypass traffic is much louder… must be the heavier air transmitting sound further.

The whistling ducks just went winging across the yard from east to west. I’m hearing a bird call that o don’t recognize. It has a quality of sound like a cardinal or a Carolina wren, but the cadence is all wrong. And here come the cattle egrets…

Judging by the night sounds I was hearing last evening, there should be plenty of frogs out to feed the whole flock. My God the cacophony of sound last night was amazing.

And now it’s the crows adding their voice to what’s happening out here. Well, it’s been mostly fun this morning but, the temperature is already passing the mid eighties. So on that note I’ll take my cup of Joe in and finish it inside… enjoy your day.

  1. It was beastly out there this afternoon, but “they” say a front’s coming tonight. The temperature drop won’t be so great, but the dew point’s supposed to go down to the 30-40% level. I’ll take that in a minute!

    1. I’ll admit the air isn’t as oppressive this morning as yesterday. If it wasn’t for the coffee cup being empty I could sit out and almost enjoy these summertime lows.
