Monday, August Twentieth

Stepping outside was painful, the heat was like a wall trying to block my passage on this Monday morning coffee muses.

Looking around what sky I can see, I can’t see any clouds… But, visiting the prognosticators website I see a foretelling of a 50% chance of rain. I’ll have to be vigilant. I had thought about mowing today, but if the heat is as bad as it has been the past few days… I think I’ll forego that pleasure.

The first bird to visit a feeder this morning was a female rubythroat. Other than that the birds are quiet this morning. The Carolina chickadees have hit the feeder now. Followed by a tufted titmouse. Now I can hear the Mississippi Kite calling as it soars above the trees. Now the rubythroated hummingbirds are beginning to battle over access to the feeder.

Traffic on the road is heavier than usual. A workday pattern. It slows down shortly after nine a.m.

The sun has risen enough that I am about to shift to the bench on the other side of the door. When I came out it was in the sun and the glider was in the shade of the magnolia. Now the sun is beginning to warm the back of my head. There’s enough of a breeze to make the chimes at the far end of the porch sing…

On second thought I think I’ll just go in and pour another cup…
