Even Here The Weather Can Change…

In the midst of August, spring appears to have triumphantly — if temporarily — returned to Houston.

Steady rainfall has delivered a blessed week of lower-than-normal temperatures, and Tuesday’s high reached only 81 degrees, which is more typical of late April than mid-August.

Wednesday’s mercury reached a comparatively warm 84, but the daily high remained 10 degrees below normal.

Houston’s rainfall this month has exceeded 5 inches, a total more normal in May than August, which averages 3.83 inches.

Watching the storms sweep across the area for the past week has been fun. Even here on the south side we have finally seen slow soaking rains…day after day of slow soaking rains.

The results of the rains so far around here are limited to one broken window and a bunch of downed limbs. Dead limbs always begin to fall after a few days of soaking rains as the wood soaks up water and gets too heavy to stay attached to the tree…

Perusing the WunderGround yesterday I was struck by one of the models showing Fay running to ground finally in the vicinity of Houston. I see that this morning more of the models are bringing her our way. Dr. Jeff has been calling Fay the Joker since long before she acquired her name…Looks like she still might have some tricks in her bag…
