December 26, Twenty O’Seven

It’s raining today so I’m sitting at the kitchen table listening to the raindrops with Mary Gauthier playing in the background. Of the things I had on my wishlist for Christmas, two were her latest recordings. Ever since I discovered her last year, I have been in love with the poetry in her lyrics. The subject of her songs are not always something you would find yourself thinking about…But damn, the way she puts the words together…

Putting words together in a way that can touch people. That’s a subject I’ve been thinking about a lot here lately. When I first stumbled into the reading blogs they were mostly tech subjects. Computer technology and program reviews lead to politics as the past decade became polarized…But over the past few years it’s been the stories. Personal blogs by wordsmiths, both professional and the not so professional polishers of words reach into the very heart of my being and touch places I didn’t know existed.

My personal strength is more in the visual side of the spectrum, though occasionally I get lucky and the words roll out with a cadence and a meaning that ends up surprising me. The feeling that comes with the creation of a few well turned phrases. Phrases that manage to convey that inner turmoil tearing it’s way out of my conciseness. Strings of words that  gives me a hint at what real wordsmiths must be driven to achieve. So I keep reading what my personal discoveries write…I keep writing what burbles up out of the morning muse over coffee…

As the year winds down to the end take some time and go exploring the internet for a few new wordsmiths to add to your own circle. Don’t be surprised though, when you begin to find that those who touch you with their words, become important to you in more ways than you would have expected. They might even become friends whose lives have a meaning in your own. Like friends always do their troubles become your troubles…Their pain your pain…Their triumphs yours. So go ahead wander out and make a few new friends..Adda few more members to that extended family you keep track of.

Enjoy what’s left of Twenty O’Seven…It won’t be coming around  to visit again.
