The Rule Of Law

As if we needed another reason to think that this years election is as important as any in a generation, the very fact that but for an appointment to come…George W Bush would not be denied the right to imprison his perceived enemies…

It shouldn’t be necessary for the Supreme Court to tell the president that he can’t have people taken into custody, spirited to a remote prison camp and held indefinitely, with no legal right to argue that they’ve been unjustly imprisoned — not even on grounds of mistaken identity. But the president in question is, sigh, George W. Bush, who has taken a chainsaw to the rule of law with the same manic gusto he displays while clearing brush at his Texas ranch.

I am sure I’ll hear from some on the right who will claim the President is keeping us safe. I have nothing to say to those who cherish the right to bear arms to protect their constitutional rights as they give up those rights for the perception if not the reality of safety.

Thank you to the five Justices that decided to stand up to the administration. The founders of our country would be proud, I know I am…

  1. The fractured Supreme Court justices reached the wrong decision that will lead to a weaker, less safe world. Who will be responsible? These 5 justices to start with.
