Driving These Mountain Roads

We started our day taking the long way into Boone. We drove over Rich Mountain Road. This shot is from the highest point on the road as it passes between Rich Mountain Bald and Snake Mountain.  From here it was all downhill.

After spending some time on King Street in Boone we decide to drive down off the Blue Ridge and see if the fall color down below was still hanging in there…So we headed to Lenoir for lunch…

After lunch we headed back towards the Blue Ridge via Highway 90. The above shot was along that stretch of road shortly after we started…

We eventually made our way to Edgemont where I was directed onto Roseborough Road and the Parkway. As we wound our way up the side of Grandmother Mountain the sun kept back lighting the fall leaves.

As you can see, the colors were just stunning. And at every inside corner the view fell away with autumn color going on as far as the eye could see…

Once we made it back to the cabin it was steaks on the grill, wine in the glass, potatoes hot from the oven, fire in the fireplace. After toasting the day we finished it off under the stars in the hot tub…steam rising into the cold night air. Then back in to the fireplace to enjoy another glass of wine before bed.

Not a bad way to spend an anniversary.

Now, after a leisurely morning we need to decide where we want to explore today…Later…
