TGIF – Looking forward to December

We seem to be having another of those foggy fall mornings…The temperature is predicted to be rising through the weekend. I have even heard predictions of 70’s this weekend. So it looks like fall has teased us again. Just another example of the many changes life puts us through.

Life at work has also been going through rapid changes these past few weeks. Walls are being knocked down, new ones being built. As construction progresses temporary homes have been made in every available space as we make room to accommodate the employees from what was a sister division. Now we are all one.

I am looking forward to some downtime this weekend…Maybe I need a photo road trip of some sort…

From this month’s trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains…

Brinegar Cabin.

For more info about the cabin and the Brinegar Family go here.

Ever since my first stop here in 2004, this complex of cabins has been the image of Appalachian Homestead to me. By the time these structures were first built my Appalachian ancestors had migrated west 60 to 70 years past following the frontier. Some to Missouri, some to Arkansas, some had already spent two generations in Texas. As I travel back to these mountains, I have to wonder what wanderlust kept them moving on. Why didn’t they stay?

  1. This was where we saw all the turkeys right? These cabins were all on a hill right up off the road? I may be wrong, and probably am, but that is how I remember it.

  2. No, these are further north and on the other side of the road. They have a demonstration garden and a loom in the cabin for summer weekends.
