Monday August 14th
It’s another warm and humid morning on the porches. At least the fan provides a bit of wind chill as I sit on the front porch watching for the buses. But all in all, there isn’t much chill in the air in my neck of the woods…
Sunday afternoon I was sitting reading under the ceiling fan with Amazon Music playing. I was just listening to the playlist I call A MixTape… Another reference that will go the way of the dodo soon. And the song that started me thinking about the music that always seems to resonate with me came on and I thought it would be fun to do a list of some of my favorites…
Edie Brickell – Good Times
For some reason this song has resonated with me ever since I stumbled on the video on the Win95 cd. I copied that file to my new computers for over a decade before I even knew who Edie was… And even today when this song plays I stop and listen…
Jeb Loy Nichols – Heaven Right Here
I don’t remember when I first heard this song from Jeb Loy, but it really started me following and collecting his work… Both music and art. If you haven’t listen to him check him out on the YouTube…
Eva Cassidy – Over The Rainbow
I only discovered Eva Cassidy a couple of years ago. And still, when I hear her voice I am left felling so sad that she never really had the chance to grow as an artist… You really could do worse than spending a few hours listening to Eva Cassidy…
Nanci Griffith on Austin City Limits “Once In a Very Blue Moon”
What can I say about Naci Griffith… It was when I first saw the documentary One Fair Summer Evening. The DVD is still one of my treasured possessions. And if there is one thing I regret about my life.. it’s never making it to Anderson Fair to see her perform live.
Eagles -Take It Easy
This one always takes me back to the summer of 1972 and riding down the calichi roads of South Texas with my grandfather driving his International Harvester Pick-up.. white dust flying behind us.. hot South Texas air blowing in the open windows.. the San Antonio AM station on the radio.. and this song playing as we traveled then road to the “Ranch”… But the predominant thing about that memory was my Grandpa…
I could keep adding videos of songs… But, chances are almost no-one will make it to the bottom of the list anyway…
So, I think it’s time now for me to go back to my coffee and at some point my breakfast and get on with my day… So y’all stay cool and I’ll catch y’all on the other side.
