It’s the 26th day of July

It’s Tuesday

Walking through the office this morning I spotted the Audubon calendar that came in the mail yesterday. I immediately had a memory flash. My Grandpa Sewell had one of those very large give me calendars that he got from the local grocer or the feed store hanging on his living room wall.

Each day was designated with a large square and the day number in the upper corner. And in that square my grandpa would record the high temperature, the load temperature, and any rainfall amount that happened that day.

The temperatures came from the min/max thermometer hanging on the back porch. The rainfall amount came from the large rain gauge that hum on the fence post by the garage.

I remember the years of those calendars. Starting in the ’50s… Running through the ’60s… And ending in the early ’70s. It was in 1971 that they sold that house and moved to the ranch in South Texas. Sometime in the 1980s, the house itself was moved across town where it still stands today.

It’s been an interesting 24 hours… Our internet started cutting out yesterday in the afternoon. By 5pm it cut out completely. I was hearing from my granddaughter every time it cut out. Once my wife was home she added her own comments. She tried watching “TV”… you know, over the air broadcast television. What she had to say about the selection of shows they were broadcasting and calling entertainment I refuse to put down in print…

And, while our provider first estimated service resumption by 7:45pm, that estimate was changed to 9:25pm before it was backed up to 12:00am. Since we were in bed by then, I have no idea of when they actually fixed the problem. I can tell you that a couple of ladies were very upset to not have their “TV shows”… Me I just read my kindle for awhile then popped a DVD in the player and just watched a movie.

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and say a prayer for our dysfunctional country and the world… I’ll catch y’all on the other side…
