It’s the 15th day of July

It’s Photo Friday

This week’s Challenge: ‘Road’.

Talimena National Scenic Byway, June 2010

It was June of 2010 and I had scored some semi-decent tickets to an Eagles concert with the Dixie Chicks opening for them as an early anniversary gift for Sherry… The downside of this was the concert was in Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals… Can anyone say “Road Trip”?

On the way I booked a room at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge outside of Mena, Arkansas. The shot above was taken as I drove to the Lodge on the Talimena National Scenic Byway.

Located atop Rich Mountain, Arkansas’s second highest peak, Queen Wilhelmina offers some of the most breathtaking views in the state from the fully renovated lodge. Travel the Talimena National Scenic Byway to this park and its lofty setting. This site is as rich in history as it is in scenery. The original lodge was built in the late 1800s as a Victorian resort named Wilhelmina Inn to honor the young Queen of the Netherlands. Two inns followed the original “Castle in the Sky.” The latest inn is today’s park lodge, the crowning attraction at Queen Wilhelmina State Park. The 40-room lodge features a new look and many modern updates.

After a wonderful night at the lodge it was back on the road to St. Louis and the music…

Here and Now

Today the skies are clear and blue outside my window. Yesterday’s tease of rain was just that… A tease. We had a bit of a lite shower that lasted all of 2 minutes after 2 hours of thunder and lightning. It didn’t even wet the drive under the trees… There is still a chance of rain. But honestly, I’m feeling a bit of history repeating itself… I’m feeling that 2011 weather vibe…

Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and say a prayer for our dysfunctional country and the world… I’ll catch y’all on the other side…
