It’s the start of another month. But, it’s the same old same old when it comes to weather. Overcast, looking very rainy, warm, muggy, just plain depressing looking.

The temperature this morning is 76 degrees. The humidity is at a stomping 92%. Welcome to Southeast Texas in summer.

I saw over the weekend that the Democrats in the Texas ledge managed to stop the GOP voters suppression law. They did it in the only way they could in Texas by walking off the floor of the legislature.

I really don’t understand the GOPs reliance on voter suppression laws across the country… No. Actually I do. Given the facts and the demographics, the GOP have no way to stay in power if they can’t suppress Democratic votes. They’ve been doing it for decades, in most cases it’s worked, so they’ll keep deleted until they’re stopped.

But I really find it hard to understand how in a small d democracy having policies that are totally undemocratic can be seen as patriotic… As strict constitutionalist unless, they’re really strict constitutionalist and want to remove everything back to the original Constitution. No votes for women, no votes for blacks, no votes for the indentured servants of the moneyed class…

Oh well, the governor is not concerned. He plans to call a special session of the legislature and put the bill before them this summer. He really has to suppress democratic turnout because elections in Texas keep getting closer, and closer.

God I wish Molly Ivins was still around…
