Stepping out this morning it’s definitely cooler, not that cool though, the thermometer reads 66°. The air is heavy with moisture. There’s a fine mist settling and blowing everywhere. Enough of a breeze blows to shake the moisture off the tree leaves. The constant drip drip drip of water hitting the car roof keeps us company at the bus stop.
Since I had already checked the radar this morning I wasn’t expecting the misty air. I guess radar doesn’t pick up this type of moisture… At least not as my phone is set up. At least, this morning is a bit brighter than yesterday morning. All morning long yesterday it just seemed like the day would never break. Outside, it was like twilight.
Last Friday I cooked a small rib roast for supper. They were on sale for Easter and I picked up the smallest one I could find. Earlier this week I sliced off a one inch slab out of the center and seared it as a steak. Yesterday I cubed up the leftovers, added it to potatoes carrots and onions and made a stew. Today for lunch that stew will become, with the addition of some vegetables, a soup. I just love a good roast… Steak… Stew… Soup. A natural progression of my favorite meals.
Sadly, my wife doesn’t agree with my meal progression. Her idea of a roast is meat with gravy over rice or noodles. Whereas my roast will always include potatoes and carrots and onions. She has no complaint about the steak. She’ll tolerate the stew, but she’s not a fan of soups. It’s funny how our food profiles are set in childhood.
There’s something about a good soup that just appeals to me. A meal in one pot… One bowl… Thick soups, thin soups, creamy soups, pureed soups… Chilis, currys, chunky soups, roasted root vegetable soups. Add in a rustic loaf of bread, a cast iron baked cornbread, or just saltine crackers… It’s all good, it’s all soup.
I haven’t had breakfast yet and all this talk about soup is making my stomach rumble and grumble. So I think I’ll make myself some grits the sausage for breakfast and get on about my day…
So, Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray… For our country, and the world.
Enjoy this spring day.
Well, we missed out — thank goodness. The hail north of us was bad. A friend in Montgomery County isn’t happy what it did to her garden!
Linda, from my side of town I wasn’t even aware or anything was happening. We had a pretty unremarkable weather day down here. A little misty rain a lot of clouds.
