April Fool’s Day
It’s a bit nippy out this morning. 54° when I walked out. And breezy, very breezy… Winds out of the Northeast. But for once, the sky is clear.
I think I’ve mentioned here before that this was my grandpa’s Sewell’s favorite day of the year. He enjoyed April fool’s Day so much that he’d celebrated for 20 days each side of the actual date. And he got such glee out of it when he could fool you.
I can still remember him looking out the little window in the front door and exclaiming that there was a buck out there, come see, come see. He would laugh so hard if he could get you to fall for it… I’ve missed that old man for a lot of years.
I’m seeing Blue Jays on my feeder more and more often. And there are more hummingbirds each week. But, most of the warblers have headed back north for the summer. And the goldfinches aren’t out any longer. But the Cardinals are still here, flashes of red against the green of spring.
YouTube has been feeding me art history documentaries. I must say, I’m enjoying the lessons. Also, it started feeding me art composition classes. Short little lessons that are quite informative. and I also see I need to pay attention to the color wheel… Who knew… Not I.
And here’s the second little painting I put my hand to…
I was a bit happier with this one, though it’s still crude. I’m learning, both by actually painting and looking at other paintings. And the lessons will continue.
It’s kind of funny, I have shelves of photographic books but I don’t own a single book on painting. And as a youngster, I was really attracted to painting.
As I was sitting in the car at the bus stop after I posted in the above photos, this image caught my eye…
Y’all stay safe, stay healthy, and pray for our nation and the world. It’s been a long rough year and we’ve got a ways to go.
Have some fun on your April fool’s Day…
It’s odd. April Fool’s Day used to be quite the thing when we were kids, and even into adulthood, but it was quiet this year. I didn’t even think of it until I heard someone mention that she hadn’t pulled a single trick. I think people are just tired, and that kind of fun isn’t quite the ticket this year. On the other hand, El Arroyo restaurant in Austin, famous for their saying-laden sign, claimed it had been stolen, and offered a reward. The sign’s back, of course!
I guess that could be why my grandkids look at me so curiously when I try to fool them…
