A cool, wintery looking start to a day that has most of the country in a polar grip morning coffee muses.
For the past week I have had a new visitor to my feeders. Mixed among the dozens of each day ppl mAmerican goldfinches, I’ve been seeing what appears to be a purple finch. All of my books show them as rare but seen in my local.
The chance of spotting a new species is a big part of what keeps me staring out the windows each day.
Being tethered to the oxygen hose has me bringing on television. Thank God for Netflix and Hulu. I discovered while in the hospital that being stuck with cable wasn’t my cup of tea.
Another change has been my coffee habit… I am down to drinking just two mugs of coffee each morning. That came about because it was so hard to get a hot cup of coffee in the hospital. And when I did get a hot cup it was always decaf.
I’m just about to head out to work. I was hoping it would warm a little faster than it has, since 50 is my preferred “bottom line,” but a combination of long underwear and fleece layers ought to do the trick. If I’m moving about it’s more bearable, but this morning’s tasks will keep me in place, and that’s colder.
I’ve been meaning to ask if you ever watch this Cornell feeder cam. It’s pretty standard stuff during the day, but I like to click in at night and watch the flying squirrels come to feed. I didn’t realize that they’re noctural. The feed’s not so clear at night, of course, but with their white stomachs and willingness to hang out on the platform, they can be seen. Good stuff.
Linda, I don’t envy you heading out into the cool morning. Try and stay warm…
I haven’t seen that cam. I don’t find myself watching videos like that because it’s just more interesting, to me, to watch live out the window.
