July Tenth, Tuesday

Another warm and humid, clear blue sky, morning coffee muses.

The first bird on the feeder today was a chickadee. And, all of my feeders need fresh seed blocks.

Chickadees are fussing in the red oak. A cardinal is singing in the cypress. There’s a tufted titmouse calling from the woods next door. A mockingbird just settled onto the top most branches of the oak by the shed… but has yet to join the choir.

It’s been awhile since the sky has been this free of clouds of a morning. It’s still rather washed out… not the vivid blue of winter. The horizon is even clear. The lack of a breeze has the temperature climbing out in the sun. The prognosticators guesstimate of the high for today has already been surpassed at a number of weather stations around town.

Here we are, one third of the way through July. Summer’s rushing by at break neck speed. Just the way I like it. I am so looking forward to autumn’s somewhat cooler weather… only three or so months to go.

Every morning I see a squirrel sitting up on a long horizontal limb of the pine tree eating pine cones. Everyday, the same place. Everyday, a new pine cone. I only notice the squirrel because it drops the individual scales of the cone after harvesting the seed.

My coffee cup has been empty for a good while. It’s time to shut off the fans and go inside to a fresh cup….
