Warmish, Slightly Humid Waiting For The Cool Front Morning Coffee Muses
I had too much going on yesterday morning so I missed my morning coffee muses. Window glass, microwave in the granny flat, telephone line repair on our landline… it was one thing after another all morning long.
As much as I’m anticipating this weekend’s cool front, I feel the hummingbirds might be even more anticipatory. They are constantly fighting for dominance at the feeders. Yesterday there were six hummingbirds lined up around one feeder. They were all drinking at once and the bubbles were rising one after the other as the sugar water was sucked up. It’s almost as busy as the feeders at the condo in Estes Park two summers ago. Though half of those were Rufus Hummingbirds.
It’s funny how most of the year I can just have two feeders up, one in front and one out back. And both will see action all year long. And even though there’s a bit of an increase in the spring, it’s nothing like these fall numbers. And it’s all caused by their wait for just the right conditions to fly across the Gulf of Mexico… they are doing exactly what I am doing myself…
Waiting on a cold front. It’s how I spend my days in September… And October… And November… The whole last third of the calendar year, I spend waiting on the cool air to show.
Well, even on the cooler front porch with a fan and a breeze the sweat is starting to bead up on my bald spot… So I think I’ll end this and go on in…
