June 25 Muse – 2015

Thursday morning Coffee Muses from the back porch… Well it doesn’t feel as cool as yesterday, but, then again… it doesn’t feel as hot as Tuesday. So all in all, that’s a good thing. Sitting here on one of our rare cloudless days makes me glad to be able to enjoy it…

You know it’s summer in Texas when the cicadas are singing louder than the birds. Speaking of birds, I am seeing a lot of fledged cardinals being taught by their fathers around about now. But I’m not seeing any grown females… Does that indicate that the moms are sitting on another brood before the real heat of summer kicks in?

Another sign of summer in my backyard are the dragonflies. They are more numerous this summer than the past few. I can think of two reasons for that… One, more rain than we’ve had in a while, thus, more places for the young to come of age. And secondly, I haven’t heard the mosquito plane this year. I have been of a mind that the aerial spraying had to be playing havoc with more than just the mosquitoes. But, for whatever reason, I am enjoying the dragonflies… in their multitude of shapes and colors.

Well, I see the daily contribution is beginning to drift in from the Gulf. Fluffy white clouds calling lie to my first paragraph up above. Time for another cup…
