Do You Want A Touch Of Humility…

Set up a Google alerton your own name and have it emailed to yourself each day.

Then you’ll see how you make the news each day. You’ll see arrest reports, obituaries, retirement notices, political reports…In other words, if your name is at all common, you’ll see the full gamut of life played out in little headlines by your doppelgänger in the world. Some of it good, some of it bad…Hell, some of it’s really great…And some of it’s just sad. That’s where the humility comes in.

If you have never tried it…Go ahead and set one up. You’ll probably need a Google account to do it, so live on the wild side for once if you don’t have one, sign up with the evil empire…It won’t hurt…Really. You are on Facebook aren’t you?

The Humility Experience

Even the announcements of “your” death, and the celebrations of that “other” life, can lead you to contemplate the “there but for a nail” go I vagrancies of life. In some lives “you” will be loved, in some not even liked…In some you will have made a difference, in some you won’t even be noticed. But, with every life you read about, you will grow with the possibilities of what can be…Try it. You can always cancel at any time you want…So what do you have to lose?

And if you don’t come away with that touch of humility leave me a comment…

  1. I don’t guess I need any alerts, but it was pretty interesting to google myself. I’d never done that. Some amazing things popped up, including my Ham License call sign! It’s been a while since I’ve made use of that.

My name isn’t very common, for one thing – and I’m not on Facebook, so that cuts down on entries considerably! Still, it was a fun exercise. Now I’m off to google my relatives and see what they’ve been up to!

    1. Way back in the early days of the internet, I spent most of my online time chasing my ancestry down. Google was my best friend for finding mentions and details about them on websites around the country. That was what got me in the habit of checking up on names.

I like to keep some alerts set up for my friends to keep track of any on-line mentions.
