Many years ago (way back in the decadent ’80’s) as I began to move into middle management I discovered Tom Peter’s In Search Of Excellence. I took the book to heart. I strove to make my clients experience as Excellent, with a capitol E, as I could. I think we mostly succeeded, sometimes it was a real bitch to pull off, sometimes we failed. On occasion everything would go to hell…And on those occasions, we strove to not let the client know what we had to do behind the scenes to make it all come off and look great. Mostly…We made money for the company. But more importantly, the clients, for the most part, became friends and repeat customers.
One of the great things about the company I worked for all those years was…If we said we would do it for a given price…We did it for that given price. We didn’t cut corners to cut costs. We didn’t try to use less than quality materials to save a few dollars. We promised a quality product and we did our damnedest to provide what we promised.
Anyway to make a long story shorter…Today’s emails brought this link…
Tom Reads His Book
When the audiobook version of The Little BIG Things was made, Tom himself did the reading. The resulting mp3 files of the 163 Ways to Pursue Excellence and special sections are being posted at tompeters.com a section at a time. To date, our website features the first five segments of the book: “Little,” “Excellence,” “Crisis,” “Opportunity,” and “Resilience,” plus the special section titled “Guru Gaffes.” If you’d like to hear Tom’s reading, you can find the audio player on our book page, www.tompeters.com/books/little-big-things/.
So, this morning my podcasts are on hold as I’ve listened to Tom Peters read from his latest book…So click on the link and invest some time from your day in Excellence…And no, this isn’t an affiliate link…
