Sitting here before sunup with the french doors open in the kitchen…Bird calls and air cool enough to keep the AC from kicking on (at least for an hour or so) wafting through with the aroma of the mornings coffee. The temperature is almost 70 again heading for the mid 80’s by afternoon. I miss our few mornings of mid 50’s already.
After two days of chainsaws and bobcat work along with the 60′ boom on there truck almost all of the tree damage is to the road for the FEMA trucks to haul off. It is almost like we have moved. The alien look of the yard is hard to deal with. The two trees that provided my afternoon shade are now gone completely. One was the largest oak on the property, the other a hackberry that had been falling apart for years but still provided some nice shade. The front of the house feel naked…One big oak gone. And the Red Cedar by the driveway…40′ of dense green all year long, now a bare spot in the yard…Hopefully when spring comes and what is left of our canopy releafs, we will have a little beter coverage than what we have now with every tree undressed long before normal leaf fall.
The next few wind storms blowing through will still be dropping lots of small branches that are still hanging in the upper reaches of the trees that are left. So, yardwork will continue into the fall.
I’ll try to take some pictures today…
