One innovation of the new strategy is closing markets to vehicles, thereby precluding car bombs that kill so many and garner so much media attention. Petraeus understandably wanted us to see this development.

How far back into the middle ages do we think we can push a society before the entire population rises up to fight not each other but us. By becoming the oppressors, we are going to give the Iraqi people a common enemy to unite against. Lets take away their cars, their refrigerators, their very ability to earn a living.
