The WordPress Upgrade Blues…

It looks like the recent round of upgrades to both WordPress and Advertising Manager has screwed up the layouts of my blogs totally.

Originally, I was using Adsence Manager as a Widget Control Panel. Paste any code into an add, give it a name, it showed up in your widget list by name. The change to Advertising Manager changed the names. No big deal. everything still showed up in the widget list with the new names. It was a bit of a pain to go through and rebuild the widgets but I caught the change before I wiped out all of my blog laypouts and went through and made a list of the diferent sidebar configureations….

Now, the WordPress upgrade…Widgets are different. Advertising Manager has one box in the list with a dropdown list of “ads”…There go all of my sidebar layouts again. And to top it all off, the formating seems a little off. What should be centered isn’t.

So what was once a very elegant work-around is now a beautiful mess with sidebars full of unnamed and unidentifieable advertizements and text boxes…Other than that I love the changes to the Widgets Page…

Pardon our dust as we spend some time fixing what really wasn’t broken…

  1. I waiting a bit longer but understand that Thesis new upgrade plays nice with WP new upgrade. Lord knows my plate is full enuff without adding blog template issues just now!

    1. I know what you mean…Every time I do this I tell myself I wont do it again…And then I do it again. The sad thing is…It’s the “improvements” that always have the unintended consequences…

  2. Sorry to hear you were having issues with Advertising Manager! Is there anything I can help with? (I am the author)

    Cheers,
    Scott

    1. Hi Scott…The only issue I’ve noticed is that the new version (working in the WordPress upgrade) doesn’t center the adds with the html code added.

All of my other issues are with the way the new WordPress Widget Page and the single advertising widget. It makes it very hard to keep track of everything. I don’t think that’s you, it seems to be the new upgrade to WP.

Actually I was using your plugin as a widget manager with the older versions of WP because it did allow the naming of “ads” and the insertion of code which would then show up in the widget list for sidebar insertion. It was my work around, and for 3 years it worked great. I should have figured someone whould fix it at some point…
