Winter Visitors

When I went walking yesterday with the dogs I sat down for a while on the grass by the bayou. I kicked of the shoes and pulled of the shirt I was wearing and soaked up some sun. Sitting there I heard a heck of a commotion in a tree across the bayou. Looking up I spotted four hawks having a conversation.Looking through my “Hawks of North America” just now I would identify them as Broad-Winged Hawks. Now let me tell you, when you get a few hawks together having a conversation you know it…Think about that lone “skree” you hear from a lone hawk on the wing and multiply it by about 30. Yes, there were only four hawks, but my how they talked to each other…

After the hawks moved on in their play I continued to sit and enjoy the weather. It wasn’t long before I turned around to let the sun beat on my back for a while. Looking up at the crystal blue sky I spied a line of vultures soaring south against the fairly strong breeze. First there was a group of four to six. Before the first group had even passed over my shoulder another group came along…Then another…And another. In all over two dozen vultures paraded by at a great height in the sky. Occasional one would peal off and circle up or down for a minute before getting back in line…

Today looks like another great day to spend some time in the sun at Mustang Bayou…Catch you later…

  1. That is unfair. Parading your end of career vacation in front of other working folk. Its enough to make me envy the amazing time you get to have doing nothing. When I had nothing to do I was bored as shit. How do you do it!?

  2. Unfair you say? And who got up in the middle of the night and changed your diaper, son? Doing nothing? You are welcome to stop by and “help” me do “nothing” anytime you want…When should I look for you so I can plan to clean out the wash house?

  3. I won’t be stopping by, some people have “work” to do… dating sites don’t create themselves… oh i have a new idea once this site launches… a site that CREATES ITSELF!
