We’ve all heard the jokes, some of them funny, about Dick Cheney being the real president, but over the weekend, Robert Kuttner made a compelling case that the jokes actually understate the case  Cheney really is the one ‘running the country.’ (via Stickings)
Recent vice presidents Walter Mondale and Al Gore were given more authority than most, but there was no doubt that the president was in charge.
Cheney is in a class by himself. The administration’s grand strategy and its implementation are the work of Cheney  sometimes Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, sometimes Cheney and political director Karl Rove.”
I wasn’t going to say anything about this post on Carpetbagger last week…but as the week went by I kept going back to the post again and again.
To my way of thinking, this explains a lot of the partisan bickering and the feeling of unease so many Americans now feel. You have an unelected frontman running interference for a unseen and secretive string puller. No one anymore feels they have any say in the way this country is being run into the ground…what else could be wrong? How about my earlier post…Scientific America has said the debate over Global Warming is over, but these politicians “ruling” America sure don’t think so. Give ‘em the chance and they will confuse as many people as they can by telling half truths and out right lies. These lies are picked up by the Media and repeated unendingly until no one remembers what actually happened anymore.
History has been rewritten over and over by this administration and the talking heads they employ at the major media outlets for the past eight years. They show no inclination of stopping now. My wish is that we could actually go back to news reporting and lose the pundantcy…
