December Apples

I figured when I saw blooms back at the end of September there was a chance I would see apples yet this year. All it took was for the heat to break and the rains to start falling and here you see what I discovered today…Baby apples. Not a lot. But a few is better than none. We lost the first crop to the drought after I had the tree moved. While it may seem a bit unusual to most to have blooms and apples in the fall, this happens almost every year after the heat of summer. It almost seems like the apple trees here get a second wind after the weather cools down.

I spotted them as I was out planting some more of the seedlings that came in last week. The overcast skies and sometimes drizzly feel to the air belied the 65° temperature.  I still have about a dozen trees yet to find spots for…Next week.
