Saturday, May twenty-sixth

It’s not too warm, but the humidity is high after the afternoon showers, for this morning coffee muses.

If I had had any idea that we were going to get as much h rain as we have this past week, I would have done my Deere meditations before they started. Yesterday afternoon the rain came down so fast and so hard the Kroger parking lot was under half a foot of water or more when I pulled in after a late lunch. We drove through deciding that even if we found a parking spot we weren’t going to wade through that much water to get into the store. So we went back later after the sun came back out.

It’s quiet out this morning. Mockingbirds around the tree line. I had a run of little blues flying over earlier. Blue jays in the distance. Dragonflies patrolling the air. An anole stalking breakfast on the porch column. The highway is quiet.

Blue skies over me today with just a few clouds way off on the eastern horizon. Probably on the eastern edge of Galveston Bay. After looking at radar, the showers are crossing Bolivar right now, just to the west of High Island.

I’ll be firing up the pit around noon. Two briskets to season and put on the grate. Let empty sit and smoke till bed time, then in the oven overnight… low and slow. And since I’m not competing, it can be fall apart tender when it’s done, and I’ll be happy. Pinto beans will soak overnight. Sunday morning , after breakfast, it’ll be time for potatoes.

And we’ve come to the bottom of another cup of muses…
