Boy, this week has flown and I hadn’t even realized I hadn’t updated anything here. The Grandson had a checkup last Friday including a couple of imunizations…And to say he hasn’t been a happy camper this week would be an understatement. Just getting through my email and newsreader each day has been a tough row to hoe.
On Wednesday the Wife decided to take a “mental health day”. We made a run down to the county seat to pick up a part for the bright green lawn machine which killed a good part of the day since I can’t be bothered to just drive straight to someplace and turn around and drive back. It was a beautiful day in the country for a drive on the back roads of the county.
We cruised through East Columbia on the way home. East Columbia is one of the earliest settlements in this part of the state. It was founded in 1823 as Bell’s Landing. The founder, Josiah Hughes Bell, sold the townsite to Walter White in 1827. The name Bell’s Landing remained in use until 1840. The name was changed to East Columbia by 1842 (1).
There are still some gorgeous old homes lining Front Street along the river.
From the looks of things, damages from Hurricane Ike were minimal. I was glad to see the homes looked pretty much like they had when the above photo’s were taken a couple of years ago.
