Wednesday morning Coffee Muses – Walking out on the back porch today was much different than it has been for the last week or so… The humidity is down to a less tropical feel and the temperature is a few degrees cooler than it has been trending. It’s funny what just four or five degrees difference can mean to enjoying that first cup of coffee out here.

Today’s image shows the field next door. I keep a half circle of it mowed when ever I mow my own yard just because I like the look from my seat in the rocking chair. After I mowed on Monday the owners Uncle came by and spent an hour or so running the big Deere around chopping up all of the past years growth. He was accompanied in his rounds by the biggest flock of cattle egrets I have seen in one place this year. There were probably close to three dozen of the comical white birds scattered all over the place.

Today the smell drifting in from over there is not a quite new mown hay smell… There is an undertone of … something… maybe weeds. It isn’t unpleasant, but, it isn’t that hay smell that brings back memories of the country in spring either. The newly mown acreage has kept the scavengers busy though… Yesterday we had a couple of hawks on the ground eating something small, today already a couple of crows have picked through the piles of drying vegetation.

Here I am, well into my second cup and the ceiling fans are having no trouble keeping the back porch comfortable. But, it won’t last much longer… The cicadas are starting to sing the temperature up…
